What is the current processing time?

Please note that the Passport Office is currently experiencing record volumes of applications, and therefore we recommend that you allow at least 12 weeks for your passport application to be processed. Passports are manufactured in Ireland by the Passport Office. The Embassy in Ottawa reviews the application and scans it to Ireland for further processing. Your new passport is then returned to the Embassy in Ottawa. When it arrives in Ottawa it will be forwarded to you, together with your original documents.

If your application is not complete you will be asked to supply the missing information or documentation – this will delay your application. If we have difficulty contacting your witness, this may also result in a delay.

Online Applicants:

Please be advised that the postage time for passports to Canada is approximately 3-5 weeks from the time the passport is dispatched. We advise all applicants to allow sufficient time for their passport to arrive and to refrain from booking travel without a valid passport.
