Welcome Message
Welcome message from Ambassador Glynn
I would like to welcome you to the website of the Embassy of Ireland to Brazil. We hope you will use it as a means of keeping in touch with what is happening in Ireland and with Ireland-related developments in Brazil.
Relations between Ireland and Brazil are excellent and my role here is to ensure that the relationship continues to flourish. While the Irish community is small in number in Brazil, we are at your disposal whether you are a full time resident or a visitor to this beautiful country. A new Consulate will open in São Paulo in 2015 and will add to our presence in the South East of the country. The opening of the Consulate reflects the importance Ireland attaches to Brazil as a partner for trade, tourism and investment and will help to raise the profile of Ireland in a key region of the country.
Before taking up my post in Brasília, I met with Brazilian university students studying in Dublin under the 'Science without Borders' programme. I was struck by the overwhelmingly positive experience they had of Ireland and I look forward to building further educational partnerships between Ireland and Brazil in the coming years.
2015 is set to be an important year in our relations with Brazil as we commemorate 40 years of diplomatic relations. We are also delighted to have Minister for Education and skills, Jan O'Sullivan TD in Brazil for this year's Saint Patrick's Day celebrations. 2016 will see the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games taking place in Rio de Janeiro and we at the Embassy will be working very closely with Olympic Council of Ireland and Paralympics Ireland to smooth the way for the teams and their supporters.
