Ms Niamh McMahon appointed Honorary Consul General for Ireland in New Zealand

Ms Niamh McMahon - Honorary Consul General of Ireland in New Zealand

It gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Charles Flanagan T.D., of Ms Niamh McMahon as Honorary Consul General for Ireland in New Zealand.

Niamh succeeds Rodney Walshe who retired in March this year.

Niamh was born Dublin and grew up Clonmel, Co Tipperary. She is a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and has been in private practice since 1987.

Niamh has worked closely for many years with the Honorary Consulate General in Auckland and with other organisations including the Ireland Fund of New Zealand, Enterprise Ireland NZ and the Irish Business Network NZ.

Under Niamh’s leadership the Honorary Consulate General will continue to operate from its office in Queen Street, Auckland, with services provided by Honorary Vice Consul, Denise Flanagan, and Consular Officers Kath Bakker and Maria O’Hanlon. They will also continue to be supported in their work by Honorary Vice Consul Darragh Walshe.

I am delighted that Niamh is taking up this role. I look forward to working closely with her in delivering comprehensive, effective and efficient consular services to the Irish community in New Zealand.

I want to take opportunity also to thank Rodney Walshe for his work as Honorary Consul General. Rodney served in that role with distinction over many years. I am most grateful to him and I wish him well in his retirement.
