Irish Argentina Celebrating Youth and Sport

Irish Argentina Celebrating Youth and Sport (throughout 2016)

The Embassy is supporting several initiatives organised in conjunction with local schools, clubs and societies, which will help connect all of those with an interest in Ireland to the story of the 1916 Rising, to the Irish immigration experience in Argentina and to our national games.

Gaelic Games

Supported by the GAA, and driven by Hurling Club of Buenos Aires, Gaelic Games are being introduced to new audiences, at schools level in Buenos Aires and further afield. A representative team from Argentina will participate in the World GAA Games, as part of the GAA’s 1916 commemoration activities in August.

Irish Art

Amongst the range of commemorative activities planned by the Irish Catholic Association in Argentina is an Irish Art competition. Participants will respond to the theme of Irish Immigration and its contribution to the Argentine nation.

Ireland of the Stories

The Embassy will support essay (English) and short-story (Spanish) competitions planned by St Brendan’s College and the Admiral Brown Irish-Argentine Society, respectively.
