Irish Studies Symposium

In celebration of the newly inaugurated Chair of Irish Studies at the University of Salvador, that University, the Embassy and the University of Notre Dame will support a symposium focusing on the historical and cultural links between Ireland and Argentina. The programme will include Notre Dame’s ‘Reframing 1916’ initiative bringing expert, and will include a particular emphasis on the support offered to Ireland in 1916 by ‘her exiled children in America’.

Casement in South America

From 17 March

Humanitarian and diplomat Roger Casement, had a long association with South America, prior to his involvement in the struggle for Irish independence. The Embassy will commemorate Casement and his links to South America with an exhibition on his many-faceted life.

Treasures of the National Library

April-June 2016

The National Library of Argentina will exhibit the works of Irish and Irish-Argentine authors as well as works with historical connections to Ireland.

Concurrently, the Library will host the RIA-curated 1916-themed exhibition, Portraits and Lives

A Shared Memory

The First World War and the revolutionary period in Ireland effectively marked the end of a significant pattern of Irish emigration to Argentina. One hundred years on, the Embassy of Ireland help preserve these records by supporting publishing projects aimed at capturing the story of Irish immigration to Argentina, the Irish contribution to Argentina, and relations between our two nations.
