The WorldSkills competition took place in Anhembi Park, São Paulo from 11th – 16th August, and Ireland’s team of 14 competed in areas including Aircraft Maintenance, Automobile Technology, Beauty Therapy, Cabinet Making, Carpentry, Construction Metal Work, Electrical Installations, Industrial Control, Joinery, Plastering and Dry Wall Systems, Plastic Die Engineering, Plumbing and Heating, Restaurant Service and Welding.

As a result of Team Ireland’s hard work and dedication, Ireland came home with two Gold Medals, eight Medallions of Excellence and a 11th place ranking out of 70 competing countries and regions. Alina Sile, a student of Shannon College of Hotel Management won a gold medal in Restaurant Service while Ros Wynne took home the gold medal in Aircraft Management, the fourth year in a row that Team Ireland has topped this category.

During their visit to São Paulo, the team also participated in the One School, One Country programme which fosters interaction between the competitors and students from local schools in order to promote education and vocational training. Team Ireland, accompanied by the Consul General Sharon Lennon, visited Escola Flavia Vizibeli Pirro where the students and competitors exchanged examples of their national music, dancing, sport and culture. The experience provided the students aged from 4 – 15 with an opportunity to learn about Ireland and options for professional skilled careers in the commercial and industrial sectors.

CG São Paulo would like to congratulate all of Team Ireland for an excellent performance at the WorldSkills 2015, and to thank the entire delegation including competitors, experts, delegates and team leaders for a fantastic week of learning and celebration. The next WorldSkills competition will take place in Abu Dhabi in 2017.
