Remembering the Battle of the Somme in Scotland in 2016

On 1 July 1916, the 36th (Ulster) Division took part in one of the bloodiest battles in human history - The Battle of the Somme.

One hundred years on, the Abbey Theatre will stage the UK premiere of a major new co-production of Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme at Glasgow’s Citizens’ Theatre from 20 May – 4 June 2016.

Part of the Abbey Theatre’s Waking the Nation commemorative programme, this iconic way play by Frank McGuiness is a powerful portrayal of mortality, love and loss.
