1916 Rising Centenary Committee Commemorations Programme

The 1916 Rising Centenary Committee was launched at the Consulate General of Ireland in Edinburgh on 28 April 2015. The Committee was established to commemorate Scottish connections with the Rising, including the role of James Connolly and that of Glasgow based members of the Irish Volunteers, Cumann na mBan and na Fianna Eireann in the events of 1916.

With support from the Irish Government, the Committee is currently developing a broad and diverse programme of commemorative events that will take place across Scotland throughout 2016.

Though some elements have yet to be confirmed, the programme is likely to include a public exhibition on the events of 1916 which will be launched in Glasgow’s Mitchell Library on 11 April 2016, as well as lectures, concerts, reading, public debates and plays about Margaret Skinnider and Elizabeth O’Farrell.
