Minister Humphrey's attends Edinburgh International Culture Summit

Minister for Arts, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys visited Edinburgh from the 11th to the 13th of August 2014.

Minister Humphreys participated in the Edinburgh International Culture Summit, a gathering of artists, thinkers, and Culture Ministers from across the world to discuss the power, position, and profile of the arts, culture, and the creative industries.

While in Edinburgh, Minister Humphreys also had a number of engagements related to Irish participation in the Edinburgh Festivals programmes. She attended performances by Culture Ireland-funded acts in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as well as the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

A number of meetings and networking events were also organised by the Consulate including:

  • Networking showcase reception at the Consulate
  • Working dinner with key Culture Ireland contacts
  • Meeting with Fergus Linehan, incoming Director of the Edinburgh International Festival, and with Kath Mainland, Director of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe
  • Meeting with Cabinet Secretary Fiona Hyslop

Alongside Cabinet Secretary Hyslop, Minister Humphreys addressed a special event on Irish-Scottish literary links at the Edinburgh International Book Festival. The event focused on the friendship between Irish writer Maurice Walsh and Neil M Gunn from Scotland.
