The US sponsoring bodies managing the great majority of Irish participants in the United States Summer Work Travel Programme (known as the J1 programme) have made public plans to introduce a requirement for applicants from countries in the Visa Waiver Programme, which includes Ireland, to pre-arrange jobs as part of their Summer 2016 J1 applications.

President Michael D. Higgins on official visit to West Coast, United States

While the main focus of the visit will be on the cities of Seattle and San Francisco, the schedule will include visits to both Microsoft in Redmond and Google in Mountain View, where the President looks forward to meeting with a significant number of Irish staff members.

Visit to Nashville by the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr Paschal Donohoe, T.D.

Minister Paschal Donohoe visited Nashville on September 14thaccompanied by Consul General Shane Stephens and the CEO of Tourism Ireland, Mr Niall Gibbons. The tourism and investment-focused programme included productive meetings with the Governor of Tennessee, Mr Bill Haslam, the Mayor of Nashville, Mr Karl Dean, the Global Executive Team of Lonely Planet, Nashville Gaelic Athletic Club and the President and CEO of Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation.

Georgia Tech to play its first ever international college football game in Ireland in 2016

The Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD, has announced that Georgia Tech will play its first ever international football game in Ireland in 2016. The Aer Lingus Classic will see the Yellow Jackets take on Boston College at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on September 3, 2016. It will be Georgia Tech’s first ever college football game outside the US. The 2016 game will mark the ninth college football game held in Ireland and the seventh featuring FBS schools.

J1 Travel Advice Guide

Minister for the Diaspora, Jimmy Deenihan TD recently launched a new J1 Guide‌ for those visiting the USA on a J1 visa this Summer. The guide was produced by the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) and was supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The guide contains helpful advice on insurance, legal issues, money, accommodation, ID, personal safety and more.

Taoiseach to visit Atlanta for St. Patrick's Day

The Consulate General of Ireland in Atlanta is delighted to announce a first visit to Atlanta, ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, by Ireland’s Taoiseach (Prime Minister), Enda Kenny TD. The Taoiseach will visit Atlanta on Friday March 13th and Saturday March 14th for a busy programme, which will include meetings with Governor Nathan Deal and Mayor Kasim Reed; engagements with Coca-Cola and a number of other major investors in Ireland; and a keynote address at the Irish Chamber of Commerce of Atlanta. The Taoiseach will also be Grand Marshal of the Atlanta St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which begins at 12pm on Saturday March 14th and runs on Peachtree Street between 15th Street NE and 5th Street NE.
