Minister Byrne launches campaign to promote EU career opportunities for Irish people

Minister of State for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne T.D., has launched a public communications campaign aimed at highlighting career opportunities available to Irish people to work in the EU Institutions.

Minister Byrne said:

Encouraging and supporting Irish people to pursue a career in the EU is an integral part of ensuring that Ireland maintains its influence within the EU’s institutions. It is imperative that Irish citizens continue to serve in the EU institutions. By doing so, Irish people will remain at the heart of Europe and maintain influence over the course that it will take in the years to come.

“The ‘A Career for EU’ strategy I launched last May aims to improve awareness of EU careers in Ireland, increase the number of Irish people applying for jobs in the EU institutions, and provide targeted supports to Irish candidates, who are preparing for an EU jobs competition.”

Minister Byrne also spoke to students and graduates yesterday at the GradIreland career fair about opportunities available to Irish people to work for the EU and the supports and training that the Government offers to those who apply.

Speaking at GradIreland, Minister Byrne said:

“The work of the EU is wide-ranging and as a result, it recruits people with a variety of skill sets and from all backgrounds, including law, science, economics, languages, agriculture and technology. These positions offer meaningful work, which can impact the lives of 450 million EU citizens.”

“Under the ‘A Career for EU’ strategy, significant practical supports are offered by the Government to those applying for permanent positions. These supports include information sessions about new competitions, practice test material, training webinars, interview coaching, and a number of full scholarships for Masters programmes at the College of Europe.”

Sheol Thomas Byrne T.D., an tAire Stáit do Ghnóthaí Eorpacha, feachtas cumarsáide poiblí a dhíríonn ar dheiseanna gairme a aibhsiú atá ar fáil do mhuintir na hÉireann chun dul ag obair in institiúidí an AE.

Dúirt an tAire:

Is cuid ríthábhachtach é spreagadh agus tacaíocht a thabhairt do mhuintir na hÉireann chun tabhairt faoi ghairm san AE chun a chinntiú go n-éireoidh le hÉirinn an tionchar atá aici laistigh d’institiúidí an Aontais a choinneáil ar bun. Tá sé bunriachtanach go leanfaidh saoránaigh na hÉireann ar aghaidh ag obair in institiúidí an AE. Má dhéanaimid é sin, beidh muintir na hÉireann i gcroílár na hEorpa agus beidh tionchar acu ar an gcúrsa a ghlacfaidh sí sna blianta atá le teacht.

“Tá sé mar aidhm ag an straitéis a sheol mé mí Bealtaine anuraidh darb ainm ‘Gairm san AE’ feasacht a ardú in Éirinn maidir le gairmréimeanna an Aontais Eorpaigh (AE), líon na nÉireannach atá ag cur isteach ar na poist in institiúidí an AE a ardú agus tacaíocht spriocdhírithe a thabhairt d’iarrthóirí Éireannacha atá ag ullmhú le haghaidh comórtas do phoist AE.”

GradIreland

Chomh maith leis sin, labhair an tAire Byrne le scoláirí agus le céimithe inné ag aonach gairme GradIreland faoi na deiseanna atá ar fáil do mhuintir na hÉireann, chun oibriú don AE agus faoi na tacaíochtaí agus oiliúint a chuireann an Rialtas ar fáil do na daoine a dhéanann iarratas orthu.

Seo mar a labhair an tAire Byrne ag GradIreland:

“Tá obair an AE leathan agus, dá bharr sin, earcaíonn sé daoine a bhfuil réimse scileanna acu chomh maith le daoine ó gach cúlra, lena n-áirítear dlí, eolaíocht, eacnamaíocht, teangacha, talmhaíocht agus teicneolaíocht. Cuireann na poist sin obair fhiúntach ar fáil, atá in ann tionchar a imirt ar shaol na 450 milliún saoránach AE.

“Faoin straitéis ‘Gairm san AE’, cuireann an Rialtas tacaíochtaí praiticiúla suntasacha ar fáil do na daoine atá ag déanamh iarratas ar na poist bhuana. Cuimsítear leis na tacaíochtaí céanna seisiúin eolais faoi chomórtais nua, faoi ábhar scrúdú trialach, faoi sheimineáir ghréasáin oiliúna, faoi chóitseáil i gcomhair agallamh, agus faoi roinnt scoláireachtaí le haghaidh cláir Mháistreachta i gColáiste na hEorpa.”

Is féidir tuilleadh eolais faoi na gairmréimeanna atá ar fáil san Aontas Eorpach agus faoi na tacaíochtaí a sholáthraíonn an Roinn Gnóthaí Eachtracha d’iarrthóirí Éireannacha ar phoist AE a fháil ag: www.dfa.ie/eujobs
