Dublin Declaration on investing in global citizenship education formally adopted

The Dublin Declaration, which commits countries across Europe to investing in building public understanding of climate change, sustainability and global justice, was adopted today at the Global Education Congress in Dublin Castle. 

The Dublin Declaration commits Governments across Europe to strengthening global citizenship education to help citizens understand their role in creating a better world. It was adopted following negotiations chaired by Minister for Overseas Development Aid and Diaspora Colm Brophy T.D. and co-chair Minister Franz Fayot, Luxembourg’s Minister of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs.

 Minister Brophy said:

“It is more important than ever for us to ensure everybody has access to education and information to help them build an understanding of the critical issues facing the world today. The Dublin Declaration commits Governments across Europe to strengthening global citizenship education across society.

 “This Declaration will help to build a broad coalition that encourages all of our citizens – young and old – to critically reflect on the state of the world and how each of us can make a difference. From climate change to conflicts, we are collectively facing enormous challenges. This is an important day for Governments all over Europe to affirm our collective determination to do what we can to help citizens understand these challenges and their role in tackling them.”
