Minister Coveney meets with Palestinian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr Riad Malki

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney TD, welcomed his Palestinian counterpart, Dr Riad Malki, to Iveagh House today, during Minister Malki’s visit to Ireland.

Speaking following his meeting with Minister Malki, Minister Coveney said:

“I am delighted to welcome Foreign Minister Malki to Ireland. We had an in-depth discussion regarding the current situation on the ground in the occupied Palestinian territory, including the recent escalation in tensions in East Jerusalem.

“We also discussed Ireland’s work in relation to the Middle East Peace Process during our current term on the United Nations Security Council, and the importance of renewing progress towards a viable, negotiated solution to the conflict.”

Ireland is a longstanding supporter of a negotiated two-state solution that ends the occupation that began in 1967; with Jerusalem as the capital of both States, on the basis of international law, including relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
