Minster Coveney welcomes decision by Swedish Government to reopen Dublin Embassy in 2022
Press release
03 November 2021The Minister for Foreign Affairs and for Defence, Simon Coveney, T.D., has warmly welcomed the decision of the Swedish Government to reopen its Embassy in Dublin in 2022.
The Minister said, “I was delighted to receive this good news in a call from my friend and colleague, Foreign Minister Ann Linde today. Ireland and Sweden have traditionally enjoyed warm and friendly relations with shared values; strong advocacy for the role of the United Nations and we enjoy a close partnership and shared perspectives as members of the European Union. The re-establishment of the Embassy means that by the end of 2022, all other 26 EU Member States will be represented by resident Ambassadors in Dublin. This is testament to the strong bilateral relations that Ireland enjoys with its EU partners and enables close engagement with them on key EU priorities such as EU-UK relations, Climate Change, the Single Market and the Digital Single Market.”
The Minister also recalled that the Government launched the Nordic Strategy earlier this year and noted that “the reopening of the Swedish Embassy in Dublin will further strengthen our bilateral links and more broadly with the Nordic region as we seek to deliver the ambitious goals set out in our Nordic Strategy”.
