Minister Flanagan launches American Chamber Ireland-US Economic Report

Minister Charles Flanagan, Trade, Press Releases, North America, 2015

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan, TD, this morning (Thursday) launched the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland - US Economic Report for 2015 at Amazon's Dublin HQ. The launch, which featured a roundtable discussion with the Minister, was attended by senior management from a number of US firms - including Airbnb, Google, Horizon Pharma, and Intel - which together employ over 12,500 people in Ireland.

Speaking at the launch at Amazon Data Services Dublin, Minister Flanagan said:

“I am pleased to launch this report which demonstrates the enormous vitality and strength of the Irish-US economic relationship and the close affinity between our people which, combined with the right policies and the rich talent pool we offer, has helped bring 130,000 jobs to Ireland.

"The report also indicates a bright future ahead with many US companies planning to grow their operations here; this is welcome news at a time where the latest figures show unemployment down for the 39th consecutive month in a row.

In his speech, Minister Flanagan highlighted the Government's continued focus on job creation and the upcoming St. Patrick's Day trade missions to the US, saying:

"As a Government, job creation is at the core of our work and we have placed huge emphasis on high priority established markets such as the USA. This month, I, the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and 5 more of my Ministerial colleagues will be travelling to the US for St Patrick’s Day and every one of us will have trade promotion events as a key part of our programmes. I am pleased to have this opportunity to launch this timely report and to engage today with US companies which employ 12,500 people in Ireland and with Amcham, which represents companies employing over 130,000 people in this country, on the eve of my visit to North America."

Minister Flanagan also spoke of the work that the Government is undertaking to further grow the Ireland - US relationship:

"This Government will continue to work to bring the Irish-US economic relationship to the next level by ensuring the conditions for future growth are in place in Ireland and in promoting Ireland as a great place to do business.
