Tánaiste extends condolences and calls for swift investigation into tragic murders near Skopje

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Eamon Gilmore T.D., in his capacity as the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), today expressed his condolences to the families of five ethnic Macedonians murdered last night in a village near Skopje. The Tánaiste said:

“I welcome the swift action by the authorities and trust that this horrific incident will be fully investigated, bringing those responsible to justice”.

"I join the appeals by the country’s political leaders and our international partners for the people to remain calm and refrain from any actions that could increase tensions between the communities”.

The OSCE Mission is monitoring the situation and is in close contact with the authorities and with the international community.
