Tánaiste Condemns Murder of Five Israeli Settlers in West Bank

Human Rights, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, Press Releases, Middle East and North Africa, 2011

Commenting on the murder of five members of an Israeli settler family, including two children and a one month-old baby, in the West Bank settlement of Itamar on Friday night, the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Eamon Gilmore, T.D., has said:

“This is an appalling act of violence which I completely condemn.   I express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of those murdered in Itamar and hope that those responsible are speedily brought to justice.”

“This senseless atrocity gives renewed urgency to the search for peace. I call on both Israelis and Palestinians to demonstrate the necessary commitment and resolve to bring about an early resumption of direct peace talks and to refrain from actions which will hinder this. It is my earnest hope that progress can be made on this basis over the coming months towards a peaceful and just settlement, based on two States living side by side, which is so long overdue.”
