Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin T.D., calls for humanitarian aid access and adherence to ceasefire in Georgia

I am very worried about continued reports of incidents of violence and looting in and around the conflict area in Georgia. Every effort must be made to end these abuses.

I would urge all parties to adhere to the 6 point plan prepared by the EU Presidency and the OSCE. The ceasefire must be respected and all armed forces must withdraw to their positions prior to the outbreak of hostilities.

Ireland continues to support efforts to improve the humanitarian situation, with the situation of those displaced by the fighting remaining of great concern. All parties need to support international humanitarian law and allow access for humanitarian efforts.
